Eclipse: A History

The people who are trolling the official forums are a disappointment even when it comes to their capacity of picking out a good thread. On the other hand, maybe the useful and well written ones are too intimidating. So I shall archive this here, hopefully it will educate the ones who wish to be.

Because there is something to know about Frostwhisper, and that is that it had an odd human resources "policy". If you are wondering how things came about and why this realm stands at it stands, I will just ask you to take a step back and ask yourselves who's leading this realm. And if you'll think about it you'll soon see that it is the same group of people who've been here from the first two quarters of 2005 and very very few were added ever since. Just so I don't stretch too long with this introduction, I will not relate to the Horde side, but what I am saying is perfectly valid in their case too. Now, coming Alliance side, one thing to bear in mind: there is no important guild on this realm which is not led or has no officers from those people who joined in that early time. Narrowing it down even more, the people who ran Eclipse, Solid, Infinity and Decerto (and please, it's pronounced Dekerto, not Decherto, there's nothing but hard C in Latin; 2 and a half years and people still haven't got round to it) are still the ones to make and break deals around here in all the guilds part of the first two echelons, in various degrees of course.

Among those, Eclipse's members are definitely the ones whose presence made the biggest impact on Frostwhisper. It was the first guild to train this realm's raiders properly. And sure, Solid and Decerto had their own core and finished ahead in Blackwing Lair, but would they had turned out the same in 2006 without Eclipse blood and the social network that came with it? As to Infinity, I think it is mentioned below that an Eclipse member was there at its inception. I'd just add that, after all, the guild was called Melody after some lowly "unknown" warrior for a reason in the beginning. Thus, now that they wrote a few paragraphs recording the happenings around them, I really see it as deserving a spot in this News section.

Eclipse was the brainchild of three players; Melodium, Adelina, and Cordelia. The trio had got to know each other through, in the words of Melodium, "Ade and Cordy were my Arcanite bar biatches for my Arcanite reaper" They came up with plans for the guild in “The Blue Recluse”, the Inn that symbolises Eclipse, mainly through the references of alcohol, and it's aim was to be a PvE raiding Guild for the newly dinged 60s.

*Melo tells me that he thinks Cordelia may have got some randoms to sign it. So heres a Thanks to the randoms that helped make Eclipse.

The core of Eclipse was formed from a guild called "Frostwhispers" which Melodium, Fluid, Sacre and Joelthebit were all part of. It was the first "major" Guild on the server, however many people felt that it was not going anywhere, and left to form another new guild known as "Unforgiven". That soon too disbanded, many people then joined "Fates Embrace", Melodium, Cordelia and Adelina however went on to form Eclipse.

Eclipse was joined by several other small guilds, such as “Primal Fear”, which gave us the likes of Valeron, Xita and Saturos, and in the words of Valeron: “It was the union with Primal Fear that sealed Eclipse's fate, certifying the fortune & success of the guild for life.” Aswell as some members from Fates Embrace, Joelthebit, the guild in which he left "Unforgiven" for.

They quickly established themselves as the top Alliance PvE guild, working their way through Molten Core (Alliance first Lucifron kill, The Core claimed Server first), and made there way up to Major Domo without many problems. However several members, including both Melodium and Cordelia later rerolled for Lightning’s Blade, depriving Eclipse from many of its core players and two of its three GMs, (though many of them later returned to Frostwhisper and formed Infinity”, but that’s a whole other story). Meanwhile Solid had emerged, and shot up through MC and soon killed Ragnaros, and from Molten Core-Naxxaramas proved themselves as Frostwhispers best and most dominate PvE guild.

Eclipse survived thanks to the efforts of people like Hinita, who practically spammed people to join. They refuelled its member base, many of who are still here today, and soon killed Ragnaros (22.10.2005) with the help of Waterfalls raid-leading. By Christmas Ragnaros had given Eclipse 4 Eyes of Sulfuras (out of 5 kills), meaning that Joelthbit was able to create Frostwhispers first Hand of Ragnaros. Eclipse seemed to be abnormally lucky with Legendaries, Joels Mace was one of 3 to be created by the hands of Eclipse, and we also managed to equip our Tanks, Elthion and Xita, both with Thunderfuries.

After Rag they moved on to Blackwing Lair, whilst still continuing to be one of Frostwhispers top PvE guilds. Eclipses last original GM, Adelina, soon decided that his WoW experience was over and handed the reigns over to Spike, who then decided to share the roll with Joelthebit.
Like many other guilds, they struggled at Nefarian, as the encounter then being so dynamic and different, many members jumped ship, and many new ones joined. **Up to the night of the kill, our best attempt had been 97%, and I’m sure everyone that was there will never forget the day we killed Nefarian (06.02.2006)

**Around the time when I joined.

We kept on farming BWL and MC for several weeks, while preparations for Ahn’Qiraj took place, including the events in Moonglade and Darkshire. Thanks to The Cores mighty efforts AQ was soon unlocked. The night it was opened, our original plan was to farm the patrolling Anubisaths for rep with Brood of Nozormu, but due to severe lag issues, we then decided to step foot into the temple, which resulted in us claiming server first on The Prophet Skeram, beating Decerto by only minutes.
We again sailed quite happily through AQ, untill Fankriss, where small cracks in the Guild structure soon started to appear, we lost other core members, such as Elthion who swapped servers, Tsunade and Bobobjorn who swapped guilds. Over the weeks the cracks got bigger, there was a noticeable lack of progress due to low attendance, and several members disappeared without a trace. The many efforts of the guilds officers were unable to solve the problems, and in April 2006, Eclipse was no more- but that was not the end.

Though we were no longer officially under one tag, the majority of members kept in close contact; our forums and class channels remained as a good tool for chat. Many groups of members also dispersed into the same guilds, namely Solid, Infinity and Alea Iacta Est.

As the incoming expansion got closer, many people discussed about our reformation and we received a high response of positive feedback, soon everything was set for our comeback. Eclipse.2 was joined by many old faces, such as Melodium and Sethis, many people joined us on new characters, Tsunade and Angelo (Sumi and Akashaa), and the guild was ready to be tested in The Burning Crusade.
Some levelled insanely fast; Sethis took first Alliance 70, Melodium and Joelthebit followed him closely, and some of us even levelled Holy-specced Priests, but we soon made it back into the new style of 25man raiding. Many people have left and many have joined, but the essence of Eclipse still remains intact, just like it has for well over 2 years now.

Thanks for the kind words Chil, and i'm honoured that Eclipse has it's own little space up here. Though In hindsight, maybe I should of checked the spelling and punctuation a bit better :) Keep up being a great patron for our realm.. xx
