1/12 "To Battle" Summery

This past Saturday, Agamaggan hosted one of the largest world PvP events in it's history, with hundreds on Horde and Alliance fighting across several zones and capitol cities. Two accurate summaries were made by Zenathar here - http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=1468647527&postId=18288190193&sid=1#218

" So a brief summary from what i saw of the event:

Arrived at Gadget about 15 mins before the event started. Looked around and see a few more lvl 70's around then usually. Got ambushed a few times in the passage between Gadget and Shimmering but finally menaged to make my way to the goblin camp and meet up with some Alliance. Small skirmishes all over the place involving lesser groups of Alliance and Horde. Alliance Forms into a sort of zerg. No sight of any serious raid gathering effort. We chase smaller groups of Horde towards the 1000 needles. Once we reach the border there is a major dispute on /general about where we should go next. Some people try to form raids but no one menages to gather more then a few ppl. Majority or alliance are spread all over the place and Xenarios and me try to get everyone to gather at the border and get into one raid. A paladin finally menages to get a bigger raid group together but Alliance are all over the place while the Horde have withdrawn out of sight. At this point we are suddenly attacked from both sides by Horde raids. We are outnumbered but at least we are gathered and prepare to defend ourselves and break through when server goes down. After a few seconds it is up again and both Alliance and Horde start popping back into the game. Once again smaller skirmishes over the border of Shimmering/1000. Alliance raid is still growing and we try to regroup at Gadget. Some horde intercept us at the passage but most of us break through. Soon there is a siege battle at the north side of Gadget. Horde are pressing us hard and Alliance is having guards attacking their flanks. After a few minutes it becomes clear that we wont be able to push the Horde back and we need to regroup. Everyone is loosing massive Gadgetstan rep aswell. With a raid down to about 30 people we end up in Theramore the closes safe spot for alliance. We decide that the battle for shimmering flats is lost and set off at full speed for Thunderbluff. While storming the city we take to long and by the time we reach the leader horde have started to appear. We are fought off and disband. Some of us head for UC for another raid that is going on there. My story end.

Anyways i think this was a great event. Major problem if you ask me was lack of leadership and organization on the Alliance side. Also server going down in as the main battle was about to start was frustrating. Horde won too but they deserve it for their organized and planned strikes ;). Also a problem was that Alliance closest safe haven was theramore while horde had 1000 outpost."

"Horde battle flow went approximately like this:

Gathered people into several raid groups. However, many of the random peeps got impatient and headed straight for Freewind Post and Shimmering Flats. I didn't mind. It would distract the Alliance.

Randoms in Shimmering Flats that went early die. They cry. I offer no sympathy. Some of them leave the raid. Bye, thanks for coming. See you at next event.

I tell folk to hold at Thunder Bluff until as late as I can leave it then get them to Freewind. Just before 3pm server time, a crowd of alliance come up in the lift. Hello chaps, nice to see you, to see you, nice. Although still waiting for a lot of people there were enough to repulse the alliance attack.

After making sure no more on their way, we head to the horde graveyard at Shimmering Flats. Big group of alliance there.

At the same time, our little secret force from Un'Goro starts to ride towards battle. Well, I say little, it was a full raid group of people mostly in T4/T5 armour or good PvP armour. The idea was to pincer the Alliance. It didn't quite work out because...

The server crashes. When logging back in "World Server Down"

Hey ho. We expected it, no need to get upset.

We log back on...and I'm in Freewind Post. Aha, last save position I guess. Oh look, Alliance spawning.

Much splatting as unlucky Alliance wake up in the world alone with hungry undead, taurens, trolls, orcs and blood elves around them. We make sure they are gone and we head once again for Shimmering Flats as people log back on in dribs and drabs.

Rather a large argument breaks out on chat channel about what we should do. Aside from bellowing (ie capslock) I don't pay much heed. I organise those that will listen to regroup at the Horde GY in Shimmering Flats and wait patiently for people to log back on and catch up from their last saved position.

Meanwhile our scouts are out and at work. Alliance massing in Gadgetzan.
I order our troops to move to Gadgetzan via racetrack, in case anything nasty lurking there waiting for us. I have a nice screeny of mounted horde thundering across the Flats. A bit of a glowy memory moment that. Felt good.

Reports come in that Alliance are moving to Crossroads and possibly Orgrimmar. We have a whole raid group go to check it out and make sure Thrall is safe.

Just as we are about to arrive at the pass that leads into Tanaris a warning comes that alliance have an ambush in the pass. We dismount, cluster up and proceed through...

...to the best battle of the day. All I could see ahead of me were masses of Alliance outside the walls of Gadgetzan waiting. I'm not ashamed to admit I had a bit of a "Oh bottom-poop" moment. Mainly because I was pretty much at the front. Eek.

The battle outside of Gadgetzan was great.

I think it was about then I got to do something I've waited 3 years to do: Gathering some peeps together, I summoned a Doom Guard and let it rip. It was basically a big stompy hurty thing that went stomping and hurting. This was great until it started beating on me. Ah, stompy, hurty thing, thanks for the memories but back to the demon world for you.

We had no idea which way it was going to go. As the battle went on, our guys that were checking out Ogrimmar and Crossroads reported nothing, so they were ordered back south to Gadgetzan. Meanwhile, its looking a bit ropey for us Hordies as Alliance have now appeared behind us in the pass. I think our reinforcements arrived about then, because it hadn't been looking too good for us at that point then suddenly there was a lot more of us than there were of alliance.

Its worth noting that by this time, a bunch of people had gone off to attack Stormwind. When the Alliance outside of Gadgetzan were dead, we waited a few mins but there was no sign of rezzing so we went off to Grom'Gol to join the SW assault.

Waited a few mins at Grom but people were very spread out. Inside the city I don't think things were going that well as they were getting swarmed by Alliance. We went up to help but Alliance were waiting in strong numbers at the entrance to the city. Fun, but short fight. Don't think I've ever had so many dots on me at once. Now I know what it must feel like to be a dungeon boss :D

Reports of TB under attack, people were defending. Ok we go there. Rez up, spirit rez if needed and go. However, I couldn't resist...

...I rezzed up in front of all the Alliance at the entrance, greeted them all with a hearty hello, danced with them...died faster than a hedgehog on its first driving lesson. Worth it :)

So, off to TB. By the time most of us get there, Alliance all dead, a few rezzing and hearthing. We make sure the city is clear and I order people to Orgrimmar. At this point we get word Alliance are going to UC. I still order the peeps to Orgrimmar as I'm not sure of the info. It emerges that the info has a strong reason for being accurate which when I learn of it...I still order people to Orgrimmar. This confused a lot of people but its about playing with principles. I want to win. I'm not prepared to cheat to do that. Within the 'not cheating' thing though, that still leaves a lot of scope for dirty tricks and tactics'. I don't mind that people think they're just helping, I'll make sure on future events they know that this is not the done thing. Again, I've had to deal with this kind of enthusiasm before. So for future reference chaps: Cross-faction info will not be tolerated or acted upon, even if well-meaning without thinking it through, nobody is to do this.

So, we get a confirmed sighting of Alliance incoming to Undercity and I order our mage to portal us there.

He's AFK :D

EEK!

Fortunately he was back very quickly. We portal there and I order rogues to scout lifts and back entrance, I gather everyone in the Throne room. It didn't take long for the Alliance to get to us. Again, some peeps couldnt understand why we didn't just rush out and mash them as they fought the guards. I wasn't sure of Alliance numbers but although vulnerable to losing, I figured we had our best chance of defence with a lvl?? camped beside us.

It was a short fight.

After that, I thanked everyone for coming, and logged off."
